About team goals predictions

A short read on the per-side scoring market, how the FootyMetrics AI calls each team's tally, and how to read the cards above.

What is a team goals prediction?

Team goals is over and under on how many one specific side scores in a match, ignoring whatever the opposition does. The home team Over 1.5 wins if the home side scores two or more, regardless of the away total. Under 0.5 wins if that side is kept off the scoresheet, which is the same as the other team keeping a clean sheet.

We cover three half-goal lines per side (0.5, 1.5, 2.5), home and away. That gives the AI six selections per side to choose from before it surfaces the strongest call. As with total goals, every line is a half so there are no pushes.

How the FootyMetrics AI picks a team goals call

The picked side's recent scoring rate against similar opposition is the headline input. The AI weighs how often that team has cleared each line in its recent fixtures, with more weight on matches against opponents of similar strength. Home and away splits matter: a side scoring three a game at home is not the same proposition on the road.

The opponent's defensive numbers feed in alongside. A team averaging one goal a match still surfaces as Over 1.5 when the other side concedes freely, especially at the venue the match is played at. Confirmed lineups shift the call: a first-choice striker missing pulls the team's Over down, while a backup centre-back on the opponent pushes it back up.

How to read a team goals pick

Each card shows the picked team and line in plain English: "Real Madrid to score 2 or more", "Brentford clean sheet", "Bayern under 2.5 goals". The probability and the best bookmaker price for that specific market sit on the right.

Lower lines (0.5 over) carry higher probabilities and lower prices. Higher lines (2.5 over) carry lower probabilities and higher prices. The strongest call per fixture is whichever line carries the biggest edge against the bookmaker.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between team goals and total goals?

Total goals is the combined count from both sides. Team goals is per side. Backing the home team Over 1.5 means you need the home side specifically to score at least two; the away side's tally does not count.

Under 0.5 goals is the same as a clean sheet?

Yes. If the away team is picked at Under 0.5, the bet wins when the home side keeps a clean sheet at the back. The label on our card calls it out as a clean sheet pick to make it readable.

Do own goals count toward a team's tally?

Yes. Goals are counted by the side credited in the official match record. An own goal scored by an away defender counts toward the home team's tally.

Why does the AI sometimes pick Over 2.5 for a struggling team?

Form against a specific opponent matters more than form in isolation. A team scoring once a game on average can still surface as Over 2.5 when the opposition's defensive record is leaky enough to flip the maths.
