Fractional odds show profit relative to stake. Decimal odds include the stake in the return. American odds are relative to a 100 unit stake.
Odds format definitions
Show profit relative to stake. 5/2 means £5 profit for every £2 staked, plus your £2 back. Total return on a £2 bet: £7.
7/4 on a £10 bet returns £17.50 in total
Show total return per unit staked, stake included. Multiply decimal odds by your stake to find total return. Simpler to compare than fractions.
2.75 x £10 stake = £27.50 total return
Positive odds show profit on a $100 bet. Negative odds show how much you must bet to profit $100. +200 and -200 are not mirror images.
+175 wins £175 on a £100 bet. -200 requires £200 to win £100
Converts odds to a percentage chance. Useful for identifying value: if you think a team has a 40% chance but odds imply 30%, there may be value in the bet.
Decimal 3.33 = (1 ÷ 3.33) x 100 = 30%

Frequently asked questions
How do you convert fractional odds to decimal?
Divide the numerator by the denominator, then add 1. For example, 7/4: (7 ÷ 4) + 1 = 2.75. Decimal odds always include your stake in the return figure.
How do you convert decimal odds to fractional?
Subtract 1 from the decimal odds to get the profit ratio, then simplify. For example, 3.5 - 1 = 2.5, which simplifies to 5/2. Our converter handles this automatically.
How do you convert decimal odds to American moneyline?
If decimal odds are 2.0 or higher: multiply (decimal - 1) by 100 and prefix with +. If below 2.0: divide -100 by (decimal - 1). For example, 2.75: (2.75 - 1) x 100 = +175.
How do you convert American odds to decimal?
For positive American odds: divide by 100 and add 1. For negative: divide 100 by the absolute value and add 1. +200 gives (200 / 100) + 1 = 3.0. -150 gives (100 / 150) + 1 = 1.67.
What is implied probability?
Implied probability converts odds into the percentage chance a bookmaker is implying for an outcome. Formula: (1 / decimal odds) x 100. Odds of 3.0 imply a 33.3% chance. Bookmakers build margin in, so implied probabilities across a market sum to more than 100%.
What is the difference between fractional and decimal odds?
Fractional odds (e.g. 5/2) show profit relative to stake. Decimal odds (e.g. 3.5) show total return per unit staked, including the stake itself. Decimal odds are easier to calculate and are the default on most European and Australian betting sites. Fractional odds are traditional in the UK and Ireland.
What are moneyline odds?
Moneyline or American odds use positive and negative numbers. A positive figure (e.g. +300) shows profit on a $100 bet. A negative figure (e.g. -150) shows how much you must bet to profit $100. Evens (1/1 or 2.0 in decimal) is represented as +100 in moneyline.
