Shot volume is the simplest measure of how often a player or team gets into a position to score. It rewards sides that build sustained pressure and players who consistently work the ball into shooting range. On its own it does not tell you how good the chances were, so it is best read next to shots on target and goals.
For the sharper end of attacking output, the shots on target page filters out blocked and off target efforts. For player props with live odds, the player props finder covers shots and shots on target markets.
Shots FAQ
What counts as a shot?
A shot is any attempt at goal, whether it is on target, off target or blocked. It includes efforts that hit the woodwork. Passes and crosses are not shots, even when they lead directly to a goal.
What is a good shots per game figure for a player?
It depends heavily on position. A regular starting striker or wide forward in a possession-heavy side will often average between two and four shots per game. Midfielders and full backs sit much lower. Compare players within the same role rather than across the whole list.
Why does the table need a minimum number of appearances?
A player who has featured once or twice can post a misleading per-game average from a single busy match. The leaderboard only includes players with at least five appearances so the averages reflect a settled pattern.
Does shot volume predict goals?
Over a season there is a clear link, but volume alone is not enough. Shot location and quality matter more than raw count. A player taking many shots from distance can have a high total and a low conversion rate. Cross-reference shots on target for a sharper read.
